New images from The Witcher Season 2
Netflix have released three new pics of the main characters from The Witcher Season 2. The first season of The Witcher was a huge hit for Netflix and the follow up season is eagerly anticipated. Filming wrapped back in April and it looks certain that the series will release somewhere in the last quarter of 2021. A trailer may well debut in Netflix’s ‘Geeked week’, which is taking place on June 7-11, 2021 – They state that The Witcher will be a part of the event so surely a teaser will be a part of it.
Season 1 was rightly popular as it mixed the grity realism and production values of Game Of Thrones with a more traditional fantasy, i.e. a story that had plot, story, sword & sorcery and a dash of humour. Henry Cavill made the hero character all his own, and the other two main characters, Yennefer and Ciri are returning. You can see Ciri below, presumably in training to become a Witcher herself at Kaer Morhen (at least this is what happens in the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, although she soon exceeds even what the Witchers expect of her).
Yennefer on the other hand looks pretty beat up in the official image below, but she has a knack of surviving and coming back stronger.
The Witcher Season 2 new cast members
Netflix announced some new cast members in February; Yasen Atour as Coen Agnes; Bjorn as Vereena; Paul Bullion as Lambert; Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen; Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel; Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia; Mecia Simson as Francesca. Then another batch were named as
- Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) as Nenneke.
- Cassie Clare (Brave New World) as Philippa Eilhart.
- Liz Carr (Devs) as Fenn.
- Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral) as Codringher.
- Kevin Doyle (Downton Abbey) as Ba’lian.
- Chris Fulton (Bridgerton) as Rience.
- Graham McTavish (Outlander) as Dijkstra.
If you have read the books you will recognise a good few of the characters named there.
How will season 2 be structured?
Part of the mystery and delight around season 1 was that the story was told in a non linear fashion, the different time periods only coalescing at the end. In many ways it adds to the pleasuere in rewatching the series. It has to be said that it makes a lot more sense than a certain film recently made by Chistopher Nolan…
That narrative structure may not be needed for this season, as the plot will probbly be driven by the story of Ciri gaining full control over her considerable powers. Expect lots of threads woven in as the writing has been consistently excellent.
We will bring you more news as it is revealed!
