'When you chase your own shadow... it leads you to the abyss' is the tagline for DC Comics new Batman limited series, it even has a trailer.

DC Comics is no stranger to putting together short animated trailers to advertise some of their newest comic releases however the new Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham limited series has certainly taken this idea in a new direction. With international Batman Day just passing us by, now is the opportune time to get DC’s money maker back out there. Check out the trailer below!

THE BAT IS BACK, FULL TIME?

Looking very inspired by Matt Reeve’s 2022 The Batman in both tone and musical score, the story is also set to take place in Batman’s younger years as he chooses to abandon his public face of Bruce Wayne to embrace the role of Batman full time. Like the Reeve’s movie we also find this Batman hunting down a deranged serial killer, meanwhile some of Batman’s classic villains are set to make an appearance albeit with a few stylistic changes.

If the trailer is anything to go by, the tale will take Reeve’s grounded setting of Gotham and take it even darker. Even the colour palette of this trailer screams The Batman (not to mention the city skyline as seen below). While this is an obvious stylistic choice by the creators, it isn’t the wrong one. With DC coming under much scrutiny over the years regarding their live action movies, the only real success story comes from their solo Batman film. It’s overdue that they realise where their true success really lies and once again it’s up to the brand of The Bat to save DC Comics from itself.

RELEASE DATE

Written and drawn by Rafael Grampá, Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham is shaping up to be a nostalgic Batman tale with a modern thriller twist. The first issue has released to raving reviews with the follow up to release sometime in November this year. Here’s hoping this is a promising sign for the future of DC, with James Gunn’s upcoming movie projects potentially being a deciding factor on whether this universe can truly clinch mainstream popularity.
